night (and day) of the living dead, hollywood in 2008

The Right has attained, a much quicker understanding of the power of Internet Media, than the Left. I would venture that NEVER before was a news medium so ripe for "seduction", seduction by propaganda.

FreeRepublic, which would/should have been shut down a long time ago (or written up, by an Alternative Weekly) in any sane age (which we definitly cannot hold claim to these days) but noooo..... FreeRepublic is let "free and clear" in this headonistic age, to conduct it's "Hooyah" on an hourly basis, day and night, nationwide.

(hello?)

So it was only a matter of time before Hollywood, which always takes awhile but eventually grabs onto, the latest right-wing media "opportunity", finds its second* (*the first was Ronald Reagan) Golden Opportunity of a Lifetime in the "Shock Jock" right-wing media entertainment (i.e. Aaron Proctor), that has succeeded so well on the Internet, and produced what is called by Entertainment Weekly (a huge media corporation, by the way), "Hollywood's first unabashedly right-wing comedy." excerpt: "are you a Republican too? its the new gay".

And of course, they're promoting it to their fellow "Freepers" on FreeRepublic [note to FreeRepublic, I have all these articles and comments copied and saved so don't even think about deleting them]

They invite FreeRepublic to the set. (!!) There the writer Stephen F. Hayes tells of watching a scene being filmed:

excerpt:
The first assistant director breaks the silence.
"Action!"
The set jumps to life. Two young men--both terrorists--enter the station. They are surprised to see a security checkpoint manned by two NYPD officers. "I'll need to see your bag, please," says one of the officers. The lead terrorist glances nervously at his friend and swings his backpack down from his shoulder to present it to the cops. Just as the officer pulls on the zipper, however, a small army of ACLU lawyers marches up to the policemen with a stop-search order. The cops look at each other and shrug their shoulders. "This says we can't search their bags."
The young men are relieved. They smile fiendishly as they walk toward the crowded platform. As the lead terrorist once again slips the backpack over his shoulder, he mutters his appreciation.
"Thank Allah for the ACLU."

Back to Ronald Reagan. The writer/director of this film, David Zucker, was a panelist at the recent conservative film fest, entitled "Liberty Film Festival".

Truth being far stranger, more absurd, and far worse than fiction, the "Fest" featured films with titles like: "In the Face of Evil", "WMD: The Murderous Reign of Saddam Hussein" and even showed old Ronald Reagan flicks! [I'll bet more than a few tissues got soaked during those showings!]

I would love to be saying here that the press stayed away from this event, but this was not the case, hardly.

excerpt:
Apuzzo said the entertainment press has been very responsive to the festival, with entertainment trades Variety and The Hollywood Reporter planning coverage, as well as the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times Magazine, the Chicago Tribune, the Washington Post (NYSE:WPO) and the BBC.

Apuzzo said he hopes the festival will embolden conservatives in Hollywood to be more open about their politics.

"We're sort of billing it as a coming out party,"

"Coming out party?" sounds more to me that Hollywood is under assault by a bunch of rednecks! Saddest of all in the production's entourage, is the presence of Dennis Hopper, an actor who has been one of my favorites since his Easy Rider days. [although, some of his all-too-real characterizations of "psychos" are making more and more sense to me at the moment.] But the question needs asking here: are things so bad that even Dennis Hopper sells out? answer: yes, they are.

Zucker says in EW that they ALL used to be Liberals [and by their age, that means hippies too...] until, he says, 9/11 which rocked their world. In the aftermath, they determined that the Democrats were too soft on retaliation and switched parties. [how many people, like Dennis Hopper, like David Zucker, like Jon Voight, like Kelsey Grammer, got the wrong message of 9/11?? look how destructive that mis-interpretation has been.]

Zucker even believes: "we are in a new McCarthy era." [this guy is really confused!]

One more preview of the film. Look at the Racism - a hallmark of the Right-wing extremist - in this:

"Another standout has Patton's ghost showing Malone a modern-day plantation full of happy cotton pickers who thank Malone for being such a humane slave owner. Malone staggers at the sight only to learn that this is his plantation and these are his slaves -- thanks to anti-war sentiment that prevented the Civil War."

In a line that filmmakers are still debating whether to cut, a smiling Gary Coleman finishes polishing a car and tosses his rag to someone: "Hey, Barack!"
